The Tuesday, February 12, 2008 edition of the Vancouver Sun features an article by reporter Janet Steffenhagen, which discusses a recent C.D. Howe Institute report, entitled School Grades: Identifying British Columbia’s Best Schools. Authored by David Johnson, Professor of Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Education Policy Scholar at the C.D. Howe Institute, the report removes the influence of local socioeconomic factors from each school’s performance, in order to identify which schools are doing better or worse than expected given the socioeconomic characteristics of their students.
